“Food For Thought”
In Luke Chapter 5, we see an absolute miracle take place before the fishermen’s eyes. After catching no fish for the entire day, they received simple instructions from Jesus that seemed to go against all professional strategies in their industry. Though they were skeptical at first, they followed those directions and after catching nothing most of the day, they now encountered an abundance of fish. There were so many fish, verse 6 tells us that their nets began to break.
After the crucifixion of Jesus and more importantly, his resurrection, a similar event took place with basically the same group. (Recorded in John Chapter 21) They caught nothing all day, then Jesus appeared, and he had not yet been revealed to them. He gave directions to cast the net on the right side of the boat. Again, the net became filled with fish and immediately, they knew Jesus had appeared to them. As they brought the boat to shore to meet Jesus, something very interesting happened that is easily missed if you rush through the verses. This time, as they drug the net to shore, which was full of fish, the net DID NOT BREAK. This is very significant.
Many times in life, we are looking for God to bless us with certain things that we may not be ready for. When we enter a new season, obtain a new position, enter a relationship prematurely, our nets break. Our capacity to handle the responsibility and accountability of maintaining that new thing is totally dependent upon our own intellect, strategy, strength, networking, persona, gifts, etc. However, when we acknowledge God’s ability and the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, He will enable and empower us with the capacity to handle everything that comes with the assignment for our lives. It’s called grace. Philippians 4:13 says that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. I encourage us all to look to Jesus and acknowledge Him in all you do and watch Him confirm his power and ability in your life. God bless you and remember that you are more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ that loves you.
